Fatima Anwar directs the EMTECH Lab. Her research is on human-centered, safety-first systems for the distributed edge, with a strong focus on security, privacy, and fairness. Projects include secure and delay-tolerant timing for IoT, privacy and robustness of federated learning, attacks on mixed-reality tracking, and security and fairness of foundation models in domains such as healthcare. The lab also works on human presence in mixed reality and robust tracking, and releases open-source hardware and software.
Fatima Anwar is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UMass Amherst. She completed her Ph.D. in ECE at UCLA.
She directs the EMTECH Lab.
